What they’re saying

  • If you are thinking about an adoption Homeland Tour, I highly recommend this organization; it is legitimate and not a scam--the reviews and photos are real. Our Korean tour was WONDERFUL. Yes, it is expensive. But for our first trip to Korea, we felt well taken care of--and have the confidence to go back again on our own. We heard things from the Korean tour guides and experienced things we never would have on our own! The tour staff were highly detail oriented and did their best to make you feel prepared for whatever might come up. There was a strong attempt to expose you to a wide variety of experiences--yet allow you to go off on your own. The tour had a great deal of flexibility, and if you needed down time, you were encouraged to take it. All staff were warm, friendly, positive-energy people.

  • What an amazing experience this summer (2023) visiting Guatemala! Thanks to The Ties Program staff, my 17 year old daughter and I had a fun and profoundly meaningful trip together with 11 other adoption families. The staff took care of every critical detail to ensure the logistics were smooth as we visited beautiful parts of the geographically and culturally rich terrain. And they provided a safe and caring space for navigating all types of emotions, for adoptees and parents alike. Very skillful ! I highly recommend this organization for adoption family heritage trips!

  • How blessed we are to have had the opportunity to be a part of this amazing group of people who shared in each other’s journey on this trip. I could go on and on...and I have been to anyone who will listen! Thank you for all you and your staff did to facilitate such a meaningful experience for our family. I feel that I have been “adopted” by Korea itself. I left that beautiful country feeling as if I am able to embrace the country, its culture, history and people as part of the heritage that is now part of my own because of Aleigha’s roots that connect us. I am forever changed. Thank you again and again for the amazing work you and your incredible staff does

Importance of Heritage Travel

  • Every adoptee's story is unique, but many feel a deep longing to connect with their roots. Visiting your birth country offers a chance to explore the land, culture, and traditions that shaped your heritage, fostering a profound sense of belonging beyond adoption narratives.

  • Whether it's the food, the language, the art, or the people, being in your birth country offers an authentic experience of the cultural context from which you came which can be helpful and grounding in your sense of identity.

  • For many adoptees, the search for their birth origins can be a deeply emotional journey. Visiting your birth country provides an opportunity to face questions and uncertainties that have lingered for years. It’s an act of reclaiming your narrative and taking ownership over your story in a way that goes beyond what you were told.

  • For some, these journeys help to answer questions about their birth family, culture, or adoption story—offering a sense of understanding.

  • Curated, bespoke trips are designed with empathy and emotional support in mind, ensuring that you feel guided and respected throughout the process, especially if you're navigating complex feelings of loss, belonging, and/or identity.

  • While not every adoptee has the same opportunities, a heritage trip opens up the door to connecting with biological relatives or a community. This meaningful journey is often emotional, transformative, and life-changing.

  • Exploring the community or region where you were born allows you to better understand the cultural forces at play in your adoption story—whether it was economic, political, or personal circumstances that led to your adoption.

  • Visiting your birth country isn’t just about revisiting your adoption story, though we do curate efforts to connect adoptees with important pieces of their past. It’s also about shaping your narrative, embracing the unknown, and finding empowerment through discovery and support.

  • The journey fosters self-discovery, growth, and pride, helping you reclaim your identity and gain a deeper understanding of your heritage and life story.

  • While the emotional and psychological benefits are profound, a heritage trip connects adoptees to something bigger than themselves: their ancestral heritage. This is an experience that lasts long after the trip ends.

  • Travel with others who share similar experiences, whether as adoptees or their loved ones. Traveling with likeminded people in a heritage journey fosters understanding, connection, and often leads to lifelong friendships that extend far beyond the trip itself.

  • A curated heritage trip allows you to create lifelong memories—whether through reconnecting with distant family, absorbing cultural traditions, or simply experiencing the beauty of the country that was once your home.

  • For adoptees who are raising their own families, this journey offers the chance to pass on knowledge of their heritage, creating a legacy that spans generations.

  • Heritage travel blends meaningful exploration with joyful experiences. From sharing meals to exploring vibrant traditions, these uplifting moments balance the emotional journey, creating rich and lasting memories.

Experience your heritage journey.
